Origin:
The Alexander Technique was developed by F. M. Alexander (1869-1955), a young Australian actor who developed chronic hoarseness that threatened his ability to continue his career. Unable to find help for his condition he began to study his own movement, discovered habits that were creating and contributing to his problem, and succeeded in restoring his voice.
His observations led him to the discovery of a relationship between the head, neck and back that influenced posture, breath and movement. He named this the “primary control” and developed a technique in the early years of the twentieth century to teach his knowledge to others. His first teacher training course was started in London, England in 1931. Today his Technique is taught to people around the world.
