I began taking lessons in the Alexander Technique in the fall of 2003, when chronic back and shoulder pain, combined with unusual stresses, began to interfere with the quality of my life.
As a landscape painter and choir director I needed to be able to stand for lengthy periods of time and to use my arms freely. This was becoming increasingly difficult. I was amazed to learn how much of the pain I was experiencing was due to misuse of myself and in a very short time, through the guidance of my teacher, I was able to function more freely. I found that what I learned in my lessons empowered me to take care of myself and freed me from the dread of a future of increasing pain and limitations.
I studied for three years to become a teacher at the Alexander Technique of Cincinnati, in Cincinnati, Ohio under the direction of Vivien and Neil Schapera. I have completed over 1600 hours of training and am certified as a teacher by the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT).
In addition to my teacher certification, I have studied psychology at Miami University, have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Wright State University, and have taken graduate courses in human development. A life-long love of music led me into the position of choir conductor at my church, where I have been applying the Alexander Technique to liberate voices.
